'The Dog Strangler' Collioure Rouge, Consolation 2008
The old name for the Mourvedre grape was 'the dog strangler', for it's ferocious tannins.  This wine is 100% Mourvedre.  The very best grapes were crushed into an open new-oak barrel and foot-worked heavily during a six week maceration, to give a big, bold and structured wine.  It is subsequently aged in old oak. £36.00

Vina Chocalan Cabernet Franc Riserva 2007
This silky, jammy style is full of ripe black and blue berry flavours. Cool breezes from the Andes, and proximity to the Pacific allow the grapes to develop fully, giving a voluptuous, fruity finish. £20.00

Izadi 'El Regalo' Reserva Rioja 2004
Thoroughly modern in style, this Rioja Reserva is aged in new american oak for at least 24 months and then in bottle for a further 24 months before release.  The result is a wine of great personality, with fine tannins, layers of flavour and a long, elegant finish. £30.00

Finca Villacreces, Ribera del Duero 2006
A blend of 90% Tempranillo and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon.  Deep purple-black in colour with a powerful nose of cassis and cranberry, with a touch of spice from the 16 months spent in oak, overlaid with hints of mocha and black pepper.  The palate is rich, smooth and ripe, with good structure, and plenty of ripe dark berry fruits. £32.00

Donnafugata 'Sherazade' IGT, Sicillia 2009
A Nero D'Avola and Syrah blend with lovely colour and ripe, spicy fruit along with a real silky palate.  This makes for an exceptionally quaffable wine with a distinct mineral edge. £19.00

Alpha Zeta Amarone 2008
This is impressively rich and modern, with a wonderful attractive freshness of perfume.  The grapes are left to raisin for around three months and then pressed to produce what many think is the ultimate red wine of Northern Italy.  £37.00

Helfire Bay Sauvignon Blanc/Semillon, Great Southern 2009
Fragrant Lemongrass and gooseberry notes with pronounced citrus blossom and lemon rind overtones.  A supple juicy mid-palate, with delicious racy lemon and grapefruit flavours, and a lovely minerally counterpoint.  Lovely balance, harmonious and round, with a crisp clean finish. £19.00

Mitolo Jester Vermentino, McLaren Vale 2010
2010 Vermentino displays classic minerality and texture.  Fresh lifted fruit, with notes of melon and citrus, and a slightly spiced edge.  Refreshing balanced acidity rounds out to an elongated finish. £22.00

Whilst oak can cover a multitude of sins, this wine proves how great New World Chardonnay can be if you don't mess with it.  Melon and peach characteristics give way to a very dry finish, reminiscent of good Chablis, if not quite as ferociously austere. £25.00

Domaine Cazes 'Le Canon du Maréchal' Blanc 2010
Delightfully fruity, fresh and lively combination of Muscat/Viognier.  This wine is produced both organically and bio-dynamically. The colour is pale gold/yellow and the nose is a mix of jasmine, apricot and grape. £20.00

'Catala' Collioure Blanc, Consolation 2008
100% Grenache Gris.  This is a rich and textured wine.  The honey scented tropical fruits interplay with liquorish and minerality, and the oak ageing provides a backbone of spice and coconut.  Full bodied and characterful, this wine accompanies good poultry, game birds and rich stews. £32.00

Izadi Fermentado en Barrica Rioja 2008
Made from 80% Viura and 20% Malvasia grapes, this fine white wine is fermanted in brand new French oak which adds a touch of distinction to it's rich fruit. £19.00

Pieropan Soave Classico 2010
If you like Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Grigio, try this as an alternative. Nice zingy character with a light mineral note. £20.00

Gavi di Gavi, La Giustiniana 'Vigneti Lugarara' 2010
Made from the Cortese grape, this gorgeous wine is clean and fresh with moderate alcohol and a lovely pure lemon and pear character, backed by a hint of white spice. £23.00

Tinpot Hut Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc 2009

Although more famous for the iconic rose, this is none the less an excellent and accessible champagne.  The nose is confit lemon and yellow plum, whilst the palate is fresh and crisp, with citrus notes and plenty of acidity, almost reminiscent of Loire.
